Mouse, the mischievous Jack Russell, sparked an emergency call-out last week when he sent his owner flying!
The owner’s fall, while out walking near one of the chines on the south coast of the Island, resulted in the Needles Coastguard Rescue Team being alerted to the situation.
A Needles spokesman said: “We went to the assistance of a gentleman who lost his footing after being pulled over by his over-excited dog, Mouse, at the bottom of a set of steps near one of the chines on the south coast of the Island. The fall resulted in a head injury, along with other serious concerns.
“The team was tasked to assist our colleagues in the Ambulance Service. Seven of our volunteer crew responded quickly to the scene. The casualty was located a 45-minute walk from our rescue vehicles, making access difficult.
“Using a basket stretcher, we began a long and careful carry-out back to a safe location for transfer to hospital. Throughout, the gentleman remained conscious and even managed to enjoy a bit of light-hearted banter with the team — a true testament to his resilience!
“We’re grateful for the kind words of thanks on our professionalism from both the casualty and the Ambulance Service. It was a physically challenging task, but exactly the kind of situation we train for regularly, because we never know what the next call may bring.”
