A cygnet caught in a fishing line in Sandown on Saturday afternoon was rescued after Friends of the Animals volunteer Dave Greenwood stepped in.
A spokesman confirmed: “We were called by a very concerned member of the public who spotted a cygnet trapped in fishing line in Sandown. We called Dave our volunteer who was the closest and he attended the scene quickly.
“The swan parents were distressed and stayed the whole time until Dave and the original caring caller managed to untangle their baby.
“After checking for any injuries the cygnet was placed on a towel until ready to join his family then off they went happily.
“Please be mindful those that use fishing line and lures etc to please discard safely due to the damage and suffering that can occur to our wildlife.”
