Wayward goose rescued after surprise visit to Newport shoe shop

It was a perfectly ordinary day on the Newport High Street yesterday (Thursday), until an unexpected shopper decided to drop in to Shoe Zone! A wayward goose, having taken a bit of a tumble into the building, found itself in need of some serious TLC.

Thankfully, the staff at Shoe Zone were absolutely up to the task. The kind-hearted heroes stepped in immediately, keeping their new feathered customer safe and comfortable inside the shop, until professional help arrived.

When the team from Friends of the Animals arrived on the scene, they were prepared for a bit of a chase – nets in hand! But they needn’t have worried. The goose, perhaps knowing he was in good hands, was perfectly content to be gently scooped up and tucked away into a cosy carrier.

While the little traveller did sustain some damage to its beak, there is good news. The bird is now safely tucked away in the dedicated care of Florence NightinGULL – the affectionate nickname for Claire at the busy Skippers Sanctuary. The IW Observer team is sending our very best wishes for a speedy recovery to the high-fashion visitor!
