Last Friday night, I had the pleasure of attending the Island Savoyards’ first production of 2024: Me and My Girl, at Shanklin Theatre. I had never attended a Savoyards’ theatrical production before, but based on reviews I had heard, I expected excellent things. I definitely wasn’t disappointed.
With skilled lighting techniques, intricate set design and gorgeous costumes, this show truly delivered the essence of the 1930s.

As the protagonist Bill Snibson, Robert Bingham delivered a captivating and humorous performance that kept the audience on tenterhooks waiting for his next quip. Alice Burton-Jones gave a stand-out interpretation as his girlfriend, Sally Smith. Her vast vocal ability shone as she soared from strength to strength with each solo.
It was delightful to hear so many seldom played classics, such as The Sun Has Got His Hat On after the intermission, and Leaning on a Lamppost, which I adored.
A distinctive highlight for me was the performance given by Hanna Emily Nixon as Lady Jacqueline Carstone. Her ability to enthral the audience with the life she breathed into her witty character kept the audience in stitches and wanting more.
The overall quality and standard of the musical was high, and I will definitely look forward to attending more Island Savoyard productions in the future, as should you.
