STAR LETTER: Sooty, Sweep, Soo and a swipe at Labour

Dear Editor,

We are constantly told to tolerate the religious beliefs and cultures of others, even those that include practices abhorrent to the majority of Brits. But tolerance should not mean subservience to fundamental incompatibilities, or be used to crush legitimate debate.

If, for example, a group of people declared Sooty the one true deity and dressed up as Sweep or Soo complete with ceremonial wands for acts of worship in the Temples of Corbett, I see no problem. However, if compliance with ‘izzy wizzy, let’s get busy’ activities was forced upon non-believers, then religious freedom would have become tyranny by glove puppet. Speaking of which, whoever is working the Labour Party needs to get a script that makes sense, or admit that the show is over.

Adam Webb, Ryde.
