Cowes café and restaurant, Jolliffe 1853, has closed with immediate effect saying a combination of challenges has left the business no longer viable.
A spokesman said: “It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we, as of Monday, have ceased trading. The lack of government support for hospitality, sky-rocketing energy costs, Island Roads, staffing difficulties, and decreasing footfall, have all collectively squeezed every last drop out of our already struggling business.
“We would like to thank every single one of our customers for the wonderful support that you have given to us. The Jolliffe family will miss every one of you.”
The building has a long history in Cowes, originally operating as a boot-making and shoe business, founded by Henry Jolliffe in the mid-19th century.
