Wight Tri enjoyed another successful trip across the Solent, with 12 members competing in the Southampton Fast Twitch Triathlon, and several returning home having achieved podium finishes.
The classic event featured a 400m (437yd) pool swim, 21km (13 miles) bike ride and 5km (3.1 miles) run, with competitors taking on a course that included a scenic route through the New Forest and Beaulieu. In warm, sunny conditions, there was no need for towels, winter jackets, or gloves, with athletes able to head straight from the pool to the saddle.
The run course began with a steep climb up Roman Road before winding towards Dibden Purlieu, where competitors were welcomed over the finish line by strong support and applause.
Jan Fletcher took first place female in a time of 1h 9m 59s, while Chris Till finished second overall in the men’s event in 59m 39s, just five seconds behind the winner despite being delayed by slow‑moving camper vans on the bike course.
There was further success in the age categories. Jade Davies was first in the ladies 25–29 category, in 1h 15m 2s. Arielle Elton‑Waters won the ladies 35–39 category, in 1h 22m 51s, with Lizzie Elton‑Waters third in the same category, in 1h 27m 21s. Kelly Moorman was third in the ladies 45–49 category, in 1h 21m 41s. Claire Squirrell finished second in the ladies 55–59 category, in 1h 20m 49s, while Annette Hickman was third in the ladies 60–64 category, in 1h 32m 30s. Loic Le Floch took third in the men’s 50–54 category, in 1h 16m 37s.
