They said they would entertain us – and Robbie Williams and John Giddings did just that over a sell-out weekend at the Isle of Wight Festival.
Sunday’s headline act Robbie performed some of his greatest hits to delight the 55,000-strong crowd, starting with ‘Let Me Entertain You’ and his set included ‘Rock DJ’, ‘Feel’, ‘She’s the One’ and finally ‘Angels’.
Robbie, in a gold and black robe, was the ultimate showman and, early on during his set, admitted he was still suffering the effects of long Covid. Afterwards, an emotional Robbie said: “It was the gig of a lifetime – a magic moment – thank you!”
John, who organised the event, added: “This year’s festival was brilliant. We had such an array of artists, from Blondie and Niall Horan, to Chinchilla, The Last Dinner Party and Lottery Winners. Plus, of course, our Main Stage headliners Pulp, George Ezra, The Chemical Brothers and Robbie Williams.
“The site was buzzing the whole weekend with people enjoying themselves and discovering new music – it was a great atmosphere.”

Niall Horan celebrating his No 1 album ‘The Show’ even played the One Direction classic ‘Story of My Life’ and said: “It is one of the honours of my life playing at this festival”, while rockers Blondie showcased their much-loved hits, including ‘Call Me’ and ‘Heart of Glass’.
James Bay surprised fans with a brand-new track and, in his first UK festival appearance in eight years, Mika dazzled with an electrifying set, even walking into an ecstatic crowd.
Among several surprises was Sam Ryder, making a guest appearance in the Kiwi Camp, and singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to a delighted fan.
Iconic 80’s singer, Toyah Willcox, performed in the Big Top, accompanied by her husband, Robert Fripp, and former Sex Pistol, Glen Matlock, who played bass. Afterwards, she said: “We had so much fun; the audience were fantastic – and I hope we’re invited back next year!”
