Cowes Reserves reach the Memorial Cup final, with the Whitecroft & Barton v High Park encounter, postponed due to injury. Vics and Newport won in Wessex, and there were hat-tricks for Niton’s Tony Potts, and Wight Eagles’ Millie Tinsley and Kira Smith.
Memorial Cup
The long-awaited semi-final clash between W&B and High Park had to be abandoned by ref, Ali Taylor, when High Park forward, Billy Haylor, sustained a broken leg early in the second half. The match was even at 1-1, with Scott Parker giving Division Two High Park the lead. A Harry Taylor penalty levelled the sportingly-contested match before the injury happened, with the match scheduled to be replayed this weekend.
Cowes Res won 2-0 away at Brading, with Jared Tout-Walters and Scott McFarlane rested from 1st team duties, on target for the Yachtsmen, and securing a place in the final.
IW Divisions One and Two
In Division Two, Binstead COB, already relegated, won 3-2 away at Bembridge, with goals from Sam McInnes, Harry Bell-Gregory and Louis Perfect.
Josh Daley and Liam Blythe got both West Wight goals in the first half, for a 2-0 home win over Vectis.
Two goals apiece for Lewis Blackmore and Connor Mooney saw Northwood win 4-3 away at Osborne Coburg, whose consolation goals came from Nick Payne and Harry Green (2).
In Division Two, Sandown & Lake won 2-0 at home to Newchurch, with goals from Danny Worboyes and Shay Dixon.
Oakfield won 3-0 away at Niton, with goals from Jay Larbalestier and Damian Hall (2).
Stoic Seaview lost 5-1 away at East Cowes Sports, with Maca Barnes, Jamie Wright, Josh Richardson (2) and Roland Bryan on target for ECS, and Ed Marsden’s penalty some consolation for the battling visitors.
Combinations One and Two
In Combination One, Ethan Jones’ second-half goal saw 3rd-placed Sandown & Lake Res win 1-0 away at Northwood Res, with yellow cards for Sandown’s Ollie Brown and sub, Josef Stratton.
Osborne Coburg Res won 3-0 away at Bembridge Res, with the pick of the goals from Josh Hitchcox-Woodnutt and Darren Wood.
West Wight Res won 3-1 away at High Park Res, with goals from Jason Moore in the first half, with Chris Bridges and Jordan Flynn securing the points in the second half. The win ensured West Wight top of the Division by 2 points from W&B Res.
Combination Two’s Oakfield Res won 4-1 at home to Ventnor A, with Sidney Lever getting the consolation goal. Three games of the season left, and 9 points behind leaders Osborne Coburg A; Oakfield continue to chase the title.
A hat-trick from Tony Potts, with goals from Tyler Thorne (2), Josh Morris and sub, Lewis Evans, saw 3rd-placed Niton Res win 7-1 at home to High Park A.
West Wight A won 6-1 at home to Newchurch Res, with Jamie Palmer on target for ‘Church.
Wessex
With Cowes’ match postponed due to ferry disruptions, Division One’s East Cowes Vics won 3-1 at home to Clanfield, with Scott Jones on target in the first 5 minutes for 1-0 at the break. Second-half strikes from Josh Neale and Elliot Wheeler clinched the points, and Vics remain in fourth place hoping for a promotion from the play-off matches. A pre-match presentation recognised Vic’s skipper, Liam Newbold’s 250th appearance.
Newport won 2-1 away at Fawley with both goals from Ji Nash.
Women
Wight Eagles triumphed 12-2 away over Pace FC Ladies, with goals from Lauren Hamer, Ellena Boakes from 25 yards, Millie Tinsley (3), Kira Smith (3), Emma Webb, Sophie Lewis, Jess Green, and Tawnie Siddall.
Fixtures
This weekend, Cowes welcome Christchurch in the Premier Division, with Vics away at New Milton and Newport home to Ringwood Town in Division One.
On the Island, Division One sees West Wight welcome Osborne Coburg, Brading host Shanklin, and Vectis face Cowes Res. In Division Two, Niton is home to East Cowes Sports, with Oakfield welcoming Newchurch.
In Combination One, Northwood Res are home to Osborne Coburg Res, and West Wight Res face Brading Res. Combination Two sees Oakfield Res home to Sandown & Lake A, Ryde Saints Res face High Park A, and West Wight A at home to Ventnor A.
