Former Wroxall FC team-mates from over 40 years ago, when they finished as runners-up in IW Division One, they reunited recently, when twins, Tony and Richard Willis, returned to the Island from Australia on family business.
Former Shanklin, Wroxall, and Shanklin Youth Club manager, Paul Biddlecombe, who also played in around 1,000 Island matches during a career spanning almost 45 seasons, organised the meeting and brought along the hand-typed matchday programme. Paul remarked, “It was good to meet up with the twins, Tony and Richard – and even after all these years, I struggle to tell them apart!”
The group reminisced about a few successful seasons, including winning Division Two, reaching a cup final, and playing in a memorable match at Whitecroft & Barton FC. During that game, Tony marked forward, Gareth Williams, who later went on to play professionally for Aston Villa, Barnsley, Hull City, and Bournemouth.
