Two Island-based companies, Sydenhams Timber Engineering (STE) and GRWN Group, are making waves in sustainable housing while playing a part in building homes for the Duchy of Cornwall’s Nansledan development in Cornwall. Two of the eco-friendly GRWNhome houses were delivered on the same day that King Charles and Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, visited the site last Monday, when the King’s commitment to the importance of sustainability in modern housing was highlighted.
The GRWNhome system is a pioneering construction technique developed through collaboration between the two companies.
Incorporating industrial hemp-based insulating materials from GRWN, with sustainable timber structures from STE, the system creates homes that are not only carbon-negative but also durable and tailored to the needs of today’s residents.
Nick Joyce, founder and CEO of GRWN Group, expressed pride in the collaboration which provides high-performance living without sacrificing comfort or convenience.
He said: “Delivering these homes to such a prestigious development is a testament to the hard work and innovation of both companies. We’re proud to be leading the charge in reducing the housing sector’s carbon footprint.”
MD of STE, Dean Orchard, added: “We’re thrilled to see our collaborative efforts come to life at Nansledan. The GRWNhome system demonstrates the potential of combining innovative, sustainable timber structures with natural materials like hemp. This project shows what can be achieved when two Isle of Wight companies come together with a shared vision for the future of housing.”
The Duchy of Cornwall’s Nansledan development, known for its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility,
will provide an ideal platform to showcase these cutting-edge homes.
