Bembridge Coastguard rescue team was called out at about 1.30pm on Monday to investigate a pyrotechnic item which had been washed ashore on Player’s Beach, near Ryde.
Once the item was confirmed as a ‘man-overboard light and smoke signal’, a cordon was put in place due to the explosive content of the product.
Assistance from the Royal Navy explosive ordinance disposal team, at Portsmouth, was requested and the item was removed for safe disposal.
Meanwhile, bomb disposal experts were called to King’s Manor Farm, Freshwater, on Tuesday afternoon, after the discovery of a suspected ordnance on the land.
Police and ambulance were called to the property, which was formerly used by the Ministry of Defence, and was a military training area, at around 2.30pm.
The Police liaised with the Royal Navy explosive ordnance disposal team, in Portsmouth, who sent over a team to dispose of the device later in the afternoon. Suspected ordnance devices have been found on the land before.
