Joedan Windows plans major Newport expansion with 150 jobs target

A major planning application has been submitted for the redevelopment of the former Snows site on Forest Road, Newport, paving the way for a significant expansion of Joedan Windows’ Island operations. The proposal seeks permission for an extension to the existing commercial building and the construction of a new industrial unit, creating a consolidated modern employment site on previously developed land. The statement notes that the scheme “rationalises multiple extant and recently approved permissions into a single, coherent development” .

Joedan Windows, which marked its 40th anniversary in 2025, already employs 42 people on the Island but plans to grow to around 150 full‑time staff within three years. The company currently operates from Daish Way but requires larger, purpose‑built manufacturing space. The new buildings would accommodate production of both uPVC and aluminium windows, with the latter housed separately to avoid cross‑contamination during manufacturing. The proposal represents an increase of around 285 sqm (3,070 sq ft) above the site’s existing industrial permissions .

The site has a long history of commercial and industrial use, including car showrooms, workshops and MOT facilities, with a strong fallback position with two unbuilt but current industrial building permissions. The planning statement by BCM Hill concludes that the development will not result in harm to design, amenity, highways or flood risk, and that parking provision exceeds adopted standards. It states that “the planning balance clearly weighs in favour of approval” given the economic benefits, policy support and reuse of brownfield land.
