Isle of Wight futsal player, Lucy Scholes, has been crowned a European champion after helping England win the 2026 Women’s Deaf European Championship in Poreč, Croatia. Futsal is a fast‑paced version of five‑a‑side football, played indoors on a hard court. Lucy was selected by head coach, Steve Daley, for the tournament, held in March.
England topped Group B with wins over Poland, Italy, and France, setting up a semi‑final against the Republic of Ireland – the team that knocked them out of the 2025 World Championships. This time England secured a 3‑1 victory to reach the final.
On March 21, they beat Poland 2‑0 to claim the European title, completing a perfect run of five wins from five. Lucy, named among the substitutes for the final, has spent the past year travelling to mainland training camps. She is supported by the Island’s Talented Athlete Programme.
