Ryde Town Council has given a major boost for Ryde Information & Support Service (RISS), with £20,000 of new funding and a new partnership with The Footprint Trust.
The additional funding ensures the much-valued drop-in service will now offer extended hours, including occasional evenings and weekends. Based at Ryde Library, RISS provides free, informal support to help residents access information, complete forms, manage paperwork, and navigate online services. Since its launch, the service has been visited over 570 times.
Alison Pearce, community officer at Ryde Town Council, explained: “We know many people who work full-time still struggle to access support. Extra sessions outside standard working hours are vital for reaching more of our community.”
To meet growing demand, two new volunteers have also joined the team. RISS manager, Keith Sheldrake, added: “Whether you’re stuck with paperwork or unsure about an online form, we’re here for a friendly chat. If we can’t help, we’ll connect you with someone who can.”
RISS is also partnering with The Footprint Trust on a fuel poverty initiative. Laura Stichbury, from the trust, said: “Many vulnerable residents need face-to-face help. This partnership will be a lifeline for those struggling with utility bills and financial management.”
