East Cowes are to receive a new marina

Cowes Harbour Commission (CHC) has unveiled exciting plans for a new marina in East Cowes.

The project, part of CHC’s ‘fit for the future’ strategy, will feature 135 walk-ashore berths, catering for recreational sailors and luxury yacht enthusiasts alike.

After gathering feedback from stakeholders and visitors, CHC identified a strong demand for more walk-ashore mooring capacity.

The new marina will meet this need, supporting visitors to Cowes, annual moorings, and large racing yachts. Berths will start at a minimum length of 7 metres (23ft), and the facility will offer modern amenities, making it a prime spot for future sailing regattas.

“We are excited to bring this new facility to East Cowes,” said Gary Hall, CEO of the harbour commission. “The marina will enhance both marine and local services, benefiting restaurants, pubs, and other local businesses.”

A 2024 economic impact report indicates the new marina could bring £23 million in benefits to East Cowes over the next 20 years. The project has already received positive feedback from local businesses and stakeholders. It will also support East Cowes’ broader regeneration plans, with access provided via a redeveloped esplanade by the Isle of Wight Council.

In collaboration with UKSA, the development will include converting the old Guard House building into shower and toilet facilities. Environmental considerations will ensure the project respects the local marine ecosystem in the Medina.

Karl Love, ward Councillor for East Cowes, expressed his support, saying, “This sustainable and environmentally friendly development is vital for our community’s long-term prosperity.”
