Wight Dolphins clean up at Grange Chine

The rubbish collected from Grange Chine

Wight Dolphins celebrated a successful start to 2026, with their second Big Wight Beach Clean, held at Grange Chine, last Saturday.

Blessed with clear blue skies and winter sunshine, the team were joined by around 25 enthusiastic volunteers who turned out to help clear the coastline of litter.

Armed with bags, grabbers, and plenty of determination, the group collected a remarkable haul of rubbish from the beach and surrounding area. Among the items retrieved were toothbrushes, a toilet brush, a wellington boot, a squeegee, large amounts of rope, polystyrene, and assorted plastics – all now safely removed from the shoreline and prevented from entering the ocean.

A spokesman for Wight Dolphins thanked Island Roads for arranging collection and disposal of the waste, and every volunteer who took part. Organisers described it as “a terrific way to start 2026”.

Plans are already underway for the group’s first Big Wight Sea Clean, scheduled for April, as well as the next Big Wight Beach Clean, which will take place later in the year at a new Island location.

The group has a number of spaces available on their upcoming ‘try dive’ session, at West Wight pool on Saturday, January 24. So if you’ve ever wanted to give scuba diving a go, email wightdolphins@training.com
