Wet weather didn’t dampen enthusiasm at fair

Despite the weather, the Spring Art & Garden Fair, at Northwood House, Cowes, over the weekend was a huge success.

Chief operating officer at Northwood House, Darren Cool, said: “The weather was challenging on Friday night and Saturday morning, but we had around 3,500 visitors during the weekend, which is around the same numbers over the last couple of years.

“There were 120 exhibitors inside and outside, with the most popular attraction being the ‘Roots and Shoots Plant Talk Tent’.”

The tent featured top gardeners, including Delanie Iris Plested, Andy McIndoe, Darryl Moore, Kate Bradbury, Paul Jupp and Mr Plant Geek.

There was also a panel of Royal Horticulture Society guests, featuring Anne Adam and Chris Taylor, joined by RHS vice-president, Rosy Hardy, who answered gardening and growing questions.

Darren added: “The other big attraction was the Island Art Showcase, in the house, which featured high-quality art from 30 Island artists.

“All the funds raised will go towards the garden maintenance team’s equipment to look after the park, as well as any restoration projects.”

There was music from JC and Angelina, as well as Mike and Amy Jolliffe, plus a vintage tractor display and the team from Barking Mad demonstrating dog agility.

Among the popular stalls drawing interest from the crowds were Caroline Knox Printmaker, Metal in Bloom, Tipsy Wight, Bob Cooper, Medina Book Shop, Northwood House Charitable Trust Company, Gill Mountford Ceramics and IW Observer gardening expert, Darren Everest.
