Tourism businesses celebrate success

The Island's winners

Isle of Wight businesses celebrated in December after being recognised for their outstanding contribution to tourism at this year’s Beautiful South Awards. The ceremony, organised by Tourism South East, took place on December 9 at The Grand in Brighton, where broadcaster Toby Anstis hosted a night celebrating the very best in the region’s visitor economy.

Shanklin’s Luccombe Hotels enjoyed a particularly successful evening. Luccombe Manor took home Gold for Dog Friendly Accommodation of the Year, while Luccombe Hall secured Bronze in the Small Hotel of the Year category. Directors Steve Wells and Clare Farrelly said they were “over the moon” with the results, adding that the awards reflect the dedication of their team in delivering first‑class experiences “whether guests have two legs or four”. They also praised the strong showing from other Island businesses, saying it helps raise the Isle of Wight’s profile as a destination of choice.

East Afton Farmhouse was another Island success story, winning Silver for Wedding Venue of the Year. Accommodation and Venue Manager Chloe Baker said the team was “absolutely delighted”, thanking the couples who choose the venue for such important moments in their lives.

She added that the award recognises the passion and care poured into creating unforgettable experiences for every guest.

The Royal Hotel in Ventnor continued its impressive run, taking Bronze for Restaurant of the Year – its fourth consecutive year placed in the top three. Owner Mohamed Bathich praised the skill and dedication of the kitchen and service teams, led by Head Chef Jacob Gough, and said he was proud to see the hotel representing the Island at such a high level.

Wildheart Animal Sanctuary also celebrated double success, winning Bronze for Regenerative Tourism and receiving a Highly Commended in the Café of the Year category. CEO Lawrence Bates said the recognition reflects the team’s commitment to creating a sustainable, inspiring day out for visitors, adding that it was wonderful to share the evening with so many other exceptional Isle of Wight businesses.
