Steam Railway’s real ale train returns on Saturday

The IW Steam Railway’s popular Real Ale Train returns tomorrow (Saturday), offering an evening of heritage travel, local beers and live steam.

From 4pm until 10.30pm, steam trains will shuttle between Wootton, Havenstreet, Ashey and Smallbrook Junction, linking up three real ale bars set up at the stations. Each stop will offer a selection of drinks, including beers from Island breweries and a variety of guest ales and ciders.

Event organiser, Liz Tagart, said: “Our volunteer bar staff have sourced beers and ciders known to be popular with a summer audience. We’re proud to offer a wide choice across the stations.”

At Ashey and Wootton, drinks from Island producers will be available, while Havenstreet will feature ales from the Pheasant, Mighty Oak and Yates breweries, along with speciality ciders and soft drinks. Freshly cooked bangers and mash, will be served at Havenstreet and Ashey.

Lyndsay McConn, licensed bar lead, said: “We’ve picked a great variety of beers and ciders to guarantee a refreshing pint to quench the thirst on a summer evening.”

Island Line trains will stop at Smallbrook Junction until 9.02pm, connecting with services to Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin. Southern Vectis route 9 will stop at Wootton Station throughout the evening.

Tickets purchased after 4pm include your first pint and are available both on-line and at the gate. With public transport options available, organisers say there is no need for anyone to drive.
