The Ross Westrop Quartet

by Jean G-Owen

The first Figgy Gig of 2024 was an evening of music, sketches and laughter last Friday at CHOYD, Yarmouth. Magic Moments duet Heather and John Whatley welcomed all with smooth standards and Figgy Pud (Jean G-Owen) and Figgy Wiggy (Cheryl May) opened the show with their anthem. The audience was then treated to a vocal extravaganza as young West Wight girls took to the stage: harmonious Annie, melodious Martha, inspirational Izy, and soulful Summer.

Jean G-Owen told a seasonal tale entitled “The Honorary Goose”, Graham Brown performed poems from his new collection Rainbows in the Dark, Linda O’Connor’s lyrical voice soared across the River Room, while Phoenix-Sahar had spectators don hip-belts for some elegant Egyptian dancing. Mrs Snelling (Heather Whatley) risked arrest for disturbing the peace, and chirpy Steve Love entertained with his Island songs. Cheryl May caused mayhem as “Franny & Jonty” prepared for Burns Night. The show ended when The Ross Westrop Quartet (Ross Glanfield, Roger Fallows, Chris Humphries and Martin Parsons) led a London medley with everyone joining in.

The next Figgy Gig, themed “Beating The Winter Blues”, is Friday, February 2. Contact Jean G-Owen on 07715 985689 or jean28owen@gmail.com for more details.
