It is intended to stage a seven-meeting speedway season, at Smallbrook stadium, between July and September, but more help and financial support is needed.
Local management said the plans followed strong support from fans and sponsors with a schedule that includes four team events, featuring the Vince Mapley and Steve Piper Memorials, the ‘Best Pairs’ competition, and the British Championships for Women, JAP Upright and 500cc classes.
Racing would take place on Tuesdays to attract a wider range of riders, as it is a quieter fixture night nationally. The club also hopes to include the British GT140 Championship, if a suitable date can be found.
However a spokesman for the Wightlink Warriors said it still needs more volunteers to help on race days, and would welcome interest from anyone keen to get involved. Additionally a few more sponsorship offers are needed to fully support the season.
To help boost attendance, the Warriors will once again use leaflets and banners, and are appealing for help with distribution to camp-sites, hotels and other venues. They are also seeking someone to help improve their social media output.
Promoter, Martin Widman, said: “We’ve already overcome some big challenges and are much closer than two weeks ago to securing the season. We’re grateful for all the support so far, and believe we’ve put together an attractive programme to showcase speedway on the Island.”
