Ryde flies the flag for Commonwealth Day

Ryde celebrated Commonwealth Day with a joint event involving Ryde Town Council and The Royal British Legion.

The event which included a flag-raising ceremony centred on the theme ‘Delivering a Common Future’, highlighted how the 54-member countries in the Commonwealth family are ‘innovating, connecting and transforming’ to help achieve some of its biggest goals such as protecting natural resources and boosting trade.

The event was attended by Deputy Lord Lieutenant Brigadier Maurice Sheen, the Mayor of Ryde Michael Lilley, Councillor Charles Chapman, Brian Richardson MBE, Lynn Ashby and representatives of the Royal British Legion, together with students representing Ryde schools and The Military Preparation College.
