Royal Opera House’s reimagined Swan Lake

By IW Observer.co.uk May 13, 2022

Ventnor Arts Club will be showing Swan Lake via satellite from the Royal Opera House in London.

The reimagining of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov’s masterpiece is by Liam Scarlett and is a testament to the late choreographer’s love for classicism.

With a score by Tchaikovsky and costume designs by John Macfarlane, Swan Lake is a breath-taking mix of elegance, mystery and passion.

Whilst out hunting, Prince Siegfried stumbles across a flock of swans, but one turns out to be a beautiful woman named Odette. The Prince is enchanted by her beauty but Odette is under a spell; she is only able to be in her human form at night.

Von Rothbart, the ruler of Odette’s curse, plays a trick on the Prince making him confess his love to near identical Odile, breaking his vows of commitment to Odette. Enraged by this, Odette knows of only one way to break this curse.

Next Thursday (May 19), 7pm-10pm, Ventnor Arts Club. Tickets are £16.58 for members and £19.78 for non-members on-line at bit.ly/IWO-SwanLake.
