A team of Island gig rowers will take on the Great River Race, in aid of Mountbatten Isle of Wight on Saturday.
Seven rowers and a cox, from Island Harbour-based Island gig rowers, will tackle the 21-mile course along the River Thames, setting off from Millwall Docks shortly after 11am and finishing at Richmond. Last year, the team completed the challenge in three hours and 41 minutes.
Sandie, who is rowing in memory of her husband, Dennis, who was cared for by the hospice, said: “It’s like a marathon. Your legs and arms get wobbly as you go on. He would have thought I was crazy, as usual!
“The most incredible view is coming under Tower Bridge and seeing those spectacular buildings. You get a different perspective from the river.”
Around 270 boats, crewed by rowers from around the world, will take part, leaving at staggered start times.
