Islanders are being invited to discover just how many ways there are to get involved in their local community at the Island Volunteer Fair, taking place at the Riverside Centre, Newport, on Sunday, September 13 from 11am–3pm.
More than 50 charities and community organisations will be attending, making this a great opportunity to explore volunteering across the Island, all under one roof.
Organisations range from Age UK Isle of Wight, Mountbatten, Barnardo’s and the NHS to the National Trust, English Heritage, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, Cats Protection, Guide Dogs and the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary. Visitors can also meet local groups involved in youth work, heritage, theatres, emergency and rescue services, community support, research, reading, conservation and much more.
The fair is for everyone. Whether you are considering volunteering for the first time – recently retired, looking to meet new people, hoping to gain experience for your CV, or simply have a few hours to spare.
Volunteering can be a great way to make friends, learn new skills, build confidence, improve wellbeing, and feel more connected to your community. Opportunities range from regular weekly roles to occasional and one-off volunteering.
There is no obligation to sign up on the day. Visitors are encouraged to come along, browse the stalls, have a chat, and find out what might suit them.
The Island Volunteer Fair is free to attend, and everyone is welcome.
