This might be one of my last IW Observer articles as cabinet member for community protection, regulatory services, and ICT before we go into another election. It has been a pleasure working with you all. I am delighted we have been able to do so much together, so my thanks to those who have contacted me with their concerns which has helped me achieve what is important to residents.
An important issue for residents was re-opening front desks at police stations. The new front desks, opened in Ryde and Cowes, serve as a critical point of contact for residents, providing essential services such as responding to enquiries, reporting crimes, and accessing police services. Their re-opening marks a significant step in reinforcing Hampshire & Isle of Wight Police commitment to community engagement and ensuring that our residents feel supported and connected to their local police.
I am also extremely pleased that being part of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire Authority I was able to help secure funding for a new fire station at East Cowes. The decision is a clear commitment to the people of East Cowes and the Island. The investment will not only see the return of operational fire crews to the town, but will also make best use of the site with the addition of much-needed vehicle maintenance facilities.
We have refurbished our crematorium in the last year; the chapel has undergone renovation, resulting in extra seating ability that is both accessible and versatile. It offers a peaceful and respectful space for people to pay tribute to their loved ones. Our hope is that the new facilities bring comfort and solace to those who are grieving.
News on a new coroner’s court will be out soon, again showing our commitment to our residents. Thank you to the coroner for her hard work. Watch out for more news on this soon.
There is so much more that has been achieved; thank you again to everyone who has supported me achieving all we have together.
