Three men bailed after murder investigation launched into fatal Cowes fire

Police have released three men on bail, after a murder investigation was launched, following a fatal fire in Cowes last Friday (June 26). A fourth man has been released with no further action, following the blaze at a property in Ronsons Close, in which the body of a man in his 20s was found.

Flowers have been laid outside the property following the fire, which started around 3.30am, and partially destroyed three homes. Two 24-year-old men, from Cowes, who were arrested on suspicion of murder and arson, with intent to endanger life, have been granted conditional bail until September 27.

A 28-year-old man from Ventnor, arrested on the same suspicions, has also been released on conditional bail until September 27, while a 59-year-old man from Cowes, who was also arrested as part of the investigation, has been released and will face no further action.

The man who died has not yet been formally identified. Police said a file is being prepared for the coroner, as enquiries into the circumstances of the fire continue.

Fire crews from Newport, Cowes, Ryde, Sandown, and Freshwater, supported by an aerial ladder platform (ALP), were sent to the scene.
