Mountbatten’s longest-serving volunteer, Pauline Poynter, has finally retired at the age of 92.

Pauline, from Carisbrooke, has volunteered for 35 years, supporting Mountbatten’s day services at the hospice, and acting as a volunteer driver to help people access care.

Pauline said: “It was very different when I started volunteering. There was no John Cheverton Centre or café; we were in a different part of the building entirely.

“It’s been wonderful to see the changes over the years, and I have enjoyed every minute of my time here. I’ve met lovely people and had lots of laughs with them – from the patients to the receptionists and other members of staff.

“I have always been appreciated and treated as one of the team. Mountbatten relies on volunteers to help as many people as they do. If I was talking to someone thinking of becoming a volunteer now, I would tell them to do it. You will enjoy it, and they will love and appreciate you.”
