More than 110 people from across the Island gathered this week for the ‘Together for Children: Collaboration and Partnership’ conference, aimed at strengthening support for Island children and families.
Organised in partnership with the IW Council’s family and community services team, the event brought together representatives from local charities, youth services, schools, and community groups to explore how they can work more effectively together.
Maria Thacker, of The Bay youth project, and former High Sheriff, Graham Biss, opened the event. During his term of office, Mr Biss championed collaboration among local groups and helped lay the groundwork for the conference.
Ashley Whittaker, the council’s lead officer for children’s services, delivered the keynote speech; he said: “This conference was a fantastic opportunity to bring together the people and organisations who are making a real difference.
“By working together, we can build on our strengths and ensure every child and family on the Island has the support they need to thrive.”
The day included workshops focused on the needs of different age groups, from early years to young adults, followed by sessions on topics such as mental health, education, safety, and aspirations.
Delegates also had time to visit information stands and make connections with others working across the sector.
The event concluded with a summary of feedback and next steps, with many attendees describing the conference as both useful and inspiring.
