Former Island MP, Bob Seely, has become a Freshwater Parish Councillor.
As previously reported, Mr Seely, 58, recently “expressed an interest” in joining the council and has since been co-opted after filling in the required forms. He lives in Mottistone, which is just under three-miles outside the parish boundary, which makes him eligible to stand for the council.
A Freshwater Parish Council spokesman said: “We can confirm the appointment of two councillors, Sandra Knowles and Bob Seely, and look forward to working with them in the future.”
Mr Seely, who is set to become a father again, was the Conservative MP for the Island from 2017 until last year’s General Election, when he was beaten by Labour’s Richard Quigley after the constituency was split into two.
Between 2013-2017, he represented Central Wight (the parishes of Brighstone, Shorwell, Rookley and Chillerton & Gatcombe) on the IW Council, until he resigned after becoming MP.
The new councillors replace the long-serving Gill Kennett and Carol Bray who have resigned in recent months.
