Goals from twins Dan and Josh Field helped secure Shanklin FC a place in the IW Challenge Cup Final. There were also 4 goals for Vectis’ Bubacarr Touray and 3 for Sandown’s Dylan Andrews, Wessex wins for Cowes and Newport, and Shanklin Ladies end 2024 at the top of Hants Division One.
Cup Matches
In the Hants Trophy, Whitecroft & Barton won 2-0 away to Bournemouth Electric, with goals from Dan Pearson in the first half and Fin Kalaker after the break.
Two goals from Gareth Bricknell, and 1 from Chris Elliott, saw West Wight win 4-1 at home to New Milton.
There was extra-time Hampshire Vase success for West Wight Reserves, who won 4-3 away at North Warnborough on penalties, with goals from Jordan Flynn (2) and Jason Moore seeing the match drawn 3-3 after 90 minutes.
Niton Res narrowly lost 3-2 at home to Yateley, with the mainland side kicking off downhill to lead 1-0 at the break, with Tony Potts and Ryan McDowell scoring for the Islanders in the second-half, but sadly it was not enough to beat the visitors.
Brading Reserves won 2-0 away at Hayling United Development, with goals from Alex Boirand and Elliot Apter, Oakfield won 12-2 away at Newport Res, and Pan Community lost 8-3 at home to Hampton, with Ryde Saints losing 15-0 at home to Cobham Sports
Shanklin won 4-0 away at Ventnor in the semi-final of the IW Challenge Cup, with ref, Ali Taylor, controlling the game from the first whistle, and disallowing an early goal from Shanklin. The visitors led 2-0 at the break, going through to the final with goals from Dan and Josh Field, veteran defender, Dean Stuber, and striker, Jamie Trowbridge. Shanklin will play the winners of the W&B v West Wight semi-final.
In the Memorial Cup, Cowes Sports Res won 5-0 at home to Division Two Sandown & Lake, with 2 goals each from Jared Tout-Walters and Charlie Haward, and 1 from Stan Backshall.
Two goals apiece from Isaac Glynn and Aaron Bennett saw Brading win 4-1 away at Osborne Coburg, with Harry Green getting the consolation goal.
IW Leagues
In Division One, Vectis came from 2-1 behind at half time to draw 2-2 away at Northwood, with Luke Flux and Leigh McKenzie scoring for Northwood in the first half, and Sam Kirby and Jamie Barratt getting the Vectis’s goals.
Division Two leaders High Park won 4-0 at home to Newchurch, with goals from Reece Galloway, Alex Harvey and Billy Haylor (2).
In Combination One, a hat-trick from Dylan Andrews, and a goal from Jimmy Golding, saw Sandown & Lake Res win 4-1 away at Bembridge Reserves, who scored through Bobbie Wye.
High Park Res won 4-2 away at Binstead COB Res.
Two goals apiece from Andrew Ebbs and Josh Richardson, and one each from Glen and Callum Warren, saw leaders, East Cowes Sports Reserves, win 6-2 at home to Shanklin Reserves, who netted through Jack Mikoakyec and Dan Drudge.
Combination Two leaders Osborne Coburg A won 13-0 at home to a brave and battling Ryde Saints Reserves side, with goals from Charlie Sharp, Jason Pengelly, Stephen McCarthy, Dan Taylor and Adam Glen.
Bubacarr Touray scored 4 goals in Vectis Reserves 6-2 away win at Sandown A, with Sam Littlemore and Cameron Kayode completing the scoring for Vectis, with outstanding performances from father and sons, James, Noah and Harry Brewer, and right back, Jack White.
Stalwart spectator, Andrew White, described it as a battle of competing styles, and commended Sandown for their “never give up” approach. There were consolations second-half goals from Eddie Johnson and Harvey Woodward for Vectis.
Bembridge A won 8-0 away at Newchurch Res.
Ventnor A won 8-6 at home to High Park A, with 2 goals apiece from Euan Sargent and Harley Kennett with 1 each from Reuben Brown, Robert Gee and Charlie Morris.
Wessex Leagues
Premier side, Cowes, won 3-0 away at United Services Sports, with goals from Scott McFarlane and Jake Wright in the first half, and Jordan Browne after the break.
Division One’s Newport won 5-1 at home to Alresford Town, with Joe Butcher scoring in the first minute, Kai Grace added a second, and an outstanding 25 yard Joe Craig volley made it 3-0, with Joe Butcher’s free kick for 4-0 at half-time, and a penalty securing the win and 5th place.
East Cowes Vics lost 2-1 away at Fleetlands, with Scott Jones getting the consolation goal.
Women’s football
Shanklin Ladies extended their lead at the top of Division One, with a 2-0 win away at Basingstoke Town, with goals in each half from Thea Broadhead.
Wight Eagles lost 4-1 away at Mudeford Phoenix, with player-of-the-match, Kira Smith, getting the consolation goal.
Fixtures
This weekend Cowes welcome Hamble, Vics travel to Folland Sports and Newport are away at Lymington.
Boxing Day sees the Division One clash between Vics and Newport, with a noon kick-off.
Cowes will be away to Hythe & Dibden on December 28.
