’Croft and Coburg convincingly clear in football

With matches played in sun, hail and rain, conditions played a part for Island sides. Whitecroft and Barton and Osborne Coburg consolidated their positions at the top of Divisions One and Two respectively. There were four hat-tricks in one match, sendings off at Binstead, High Park and Vics, and a dramatic cup triumph for High Park Reserves in the replayed fixture at Niton.

Cup match
In the Junior B Cup replay, after the first match was abandoned following Walker Milsome’s leg-break, High Park Res won the penalty shoot-out 5-4. The shoot-out came after the team drew 1-1 at home to Niton Res with goals from Niton’s Jamie Dickinson and Park’s Chris Maher.

Island Leagues
Division One leaders W&B won 4-1 away at Northwood, with two goals from Sam Cant and one apiece for Sam Yelland and sub Fin Kalaker.
Shanklin, with an average of 20, won 1-0 at home to Bembridge with a first-half free kick from Cory Sanderson securing the points with Frank Stuber having an outstanding match.
Ventnor moved into second spot after winning 4-1 at home to East Cowes Sports, with two goals from Robert Gee and one each from player-of-the-match, Callum Illman, and George Rowland. Eddie Brotheron was on target for the visitors.
Binstead COB won 5-1 away at High Park, with two goals each for Jamie Dyer and Paul Dodd. Harry Taylor also scored for the Binmen. Park’s Harley Turner was dismissed for a reckless challenge.

In Division Two, 2nd-placed Sandown won 5-0 away at Newchurch, with Sandown’s Alex Breingan side-footed at the back post to give them a 1-0 lead on half-time.
Leaders Osborne Coburg won 13-0 away at Seaview, with hat-tricks for Liam Sumpter, Mark Taylor, Carl Phillipson and player-of-the-match Harry Green, and one for Brad Kenning.

In Combination One, two goals from Charlie Smeeton and one from Simon Merrett saw leaders West Wight Res win 3-1 away at W&B Res. The scorer for W&B was Lorry Stanton, with yellow cards for the team’s Brad Cantelo and West Wight’s Dean Heather and Simon Merrett.
Brading Res had a 15-minute golden spell to come back from Coburg’s Connor Coburn’s early goal, to win 5-1 at home to Osborne Coburg Res.
Second-placed East Cowes Sports Res drew 2-2 at home to Binstead COB Res, who had a player sent off after eight minutes. Jordan Brownrigg and Roland Bryan netted for ECS.
Goals from Kian Mooney and Tom Rogers saw Northwood Res win 2-0 away at Ventnor Res.

In Combination Two, leaders Bembridge A won 4-2 at home to West Wight A at Steyne Park, with Joe Adamson and Jordan Maloney getting the consolation goals.
A goal from Sidney Lever and two from Eden Pardy saw Ventnor Res draw 3-3 at home to Ryde Saints Res, with Jacob Jenner scoring from a first half penalty, and Henry Wollweber and Jacob Jenner after break.
Wootton Res were awarded a home win against Seaview Res.

Wessex Leagues
In the Premier division, Cowes lost 3-1 away at Fareham Town, with Scott McFarlane scoring from the spot after being fouled.

In Division One, East Cowes Vics won 2-0 away at Cove, who had a player sent off, with goals from Jez Conway and Jake Wright.
Newport, on an increasingly well-used pitch, won 1-0 at home to Aldermaston, after a goal-less first half. Michael Thompsett’s looping header secured three points in the 90th minute of the match.

Women’s Football
Shanklin won 4-2 at home against QK Southampton Ladies, with goals from Gemma Woodford, Thea Broadhead, Sienna Brennen and Jazz Bavington.
Wight Eagles won 5.1 away at Bursledon to go top of Division Three.

Fixtures
In the Memorial Cup, Binstead COB welcome W&B, Brading face Ventnor, and Vectis play Cowes Sports Res.
In the Junior A cup, East Cowes Sports Res play Wootton.
In Division One, West Wight welcome Bembridge, and High Park entertain Shanklin.
Osborne Coburg are at home to Newport Res in Division Two, with Seaview entertaining Ryde Saints.

Today (Good Friday) East Cowes Vics play Newport in the Beatrice Avenue Division One derby, with Cowes away at United Service Portsmouth on Saturday.
There are mid-week games for Cowes at Moneyfields, Vics away at Totton & Eling, and Newport away at Romsey.
