A party held over the King’s Coronation weekend has raised more than £1,000 for the Prince’s Trust.
The event, hosted by Ian and Claire Wellby, for local Conservatives at their farm near Whitwell, included a sumptuous lunch followed by patriotic singing accompanied by 10-piece Island band, Solent Swing. The event concluded with a 21-gun salute in honour of the new King, using original Edwardian saluting guns from Solent Yacht Clubs.
Ian said: “We were delighted to host nearly 200 people who came together to celebrate the King’s Coronation and raise funds for his own charity, the Prince’s Trust.
“I was honoured to present £1,017, the proceeds of the event, to the charity, and learn about the vital work they do to help young people find the tools and confidence to get on in life.
“Their work here on the Island is more relevant than ever, as a whole generation of young people struggle to recover from the impact the pandemic has had on their education, social lives and career options.”
The Prince’s Trust works in partnership with the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service, to provide free 12-week courses for 16 to 25-year-olds who are unemployed and not in education or training. Over 20 years they have helped more than 1,500 young people in the region develop the skills and confidence to enter the world of work.
