Chris tackles fear of heights to raise funds for hospice

Chris Smith, branch partner at Pittis’ Shanklin office, faced his fear of heights and battled strong winds on Sunday to complete an abseil in support of Mountbatten who cared for his aunt, Margaret Nolan.

The event, which took place at Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower, saw Chris step out onto a platform in challenging weather conditions. Despite not being comfortable with heights, he took on the 100-metre descent to raise funds for the Island’s only hospice.

Pittis, as an independent estate agent on the Island, is keen to give back to the community and is currently supporting Mountbatten’s work with children and families. Chris said he was proud to be involved, especially given the vital role Mountbatten plays in supporting those at the most difficult times.

The abseil was part of a wider fund-raising effort aimed at helping expand services for children.

Chris said: “Thanks to Mountbatten’s 24-hour care and loving attention at all times, the last few weeks of my Aunt Margaret’s battle with cancer were dignified and comfortable, and she passed away peacefully and pain free.” He added that, despite the nerves, it was all worth it for such an important cause.
