West Wight MP, Richard Quigley, welcomed a range of Island stakeholders to his Newport constituency office on Friday, to mark six months since its opening.
The event brought together figures from across the community, offering a chance to reflect on progress in the newly-formed Isle of Wight West constituency, and share ideas for addressing local challenges and future growth.
Guests included council leader, Cllr Phil Jordan, council Chairman, Cllr Ian Dore, Island Youth Trust CEO, Jo Dare, and representatives from education, health, business, the voluntary sector and the police. The IW Observer was also welcomed to the event.
Richard used the opportunity to set out his priorities for the remainder of this parliament, including reversing decline, rebalancing demographics, supporting local wealth creation, and tackling structural issues facing the Island.
He said: “During the election campaign, I heard from employers struggling to recruit locally, while schools and colleges told me they couldn’t find jobs for their students. Both can’t be true at the same time — and it’s a problem we must solve together.”
Describing his office as “A space where connections can be made and collaboration can happen,” he added: “I am absolutely committed to the pledges I made — but I can’t do it alone.”
The office, based in Mill Court Business Centre, was chosen for its central location, access to public transport and on-site SMEs and healthcare providers. It is open to constituents on Tuesdays between 10am and 12 noon, or by appointment. Constituents can also call the office on 244980.
