A treat for meat and fish lovers

A new wet-fish counter and butcher’s is opening in Yarmouth for the first time in 25 years.

The two counters, at the Yarmouth Food Lovers Market Deli, are being run by chef, Kevin Hall, and manager, Charlotte Depay.

Charlotte, who has worked in retail and as a waitress since leaving school, said: “All our food will be sourced locally and if, for example, we can’t get the right fish we will buy from the south coast.

“We want all our produce to be of the best quality so you can take it home and cook yourself. There is a huge difference in taste between pre-packed meat and fresh meat.

“Our meat, like steaks for example, can be cut to order and we will supply herbs like mint and rosemary with lamb and samphire for the fish.

“It’s a really exciting project and I’m looking forward to the summer where there will be a lot more people about and a lot more different produce available.”

Kevin is classically trained in French cooking and has previously worked at Burr’s Restaurant, Newport, and The George Hotel, Yarmouth.

He said: “As well as providing meat and fish, I will be making daily special French meals, like beef bourguignon.

We’ve already had a lot of footfall and local people are pleased to see that they can just pop into town now and don’t have to travel too far for this type of shopping.”
