Get ready for a great day out for you and your dog, on Sunday, April 27, with The Great Isle of Wight Dog Walk. Three Island charities, RSPCA Isle of Wight, Friends of the Animals, and the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, are working together to bring you a unique experience combining history, nature, and plenty of wagging tails.
Your day begins with a ride in a vintage Victorian or Edwardian carriage, pulled by a steam train, to the start of a dog-friendly 3-mile morning walk. Alternatively you and your furry friend can enjoy a 5-mile circular afternoon hike from Havenstreet, taking in the scenic routes through Wootton and Briddlesford Woods. You can, of course, do both if your legs are up to to it!
Treat your pup to a commemorative tag and take part in a fun-filled Family Dog Show, organised by Friends of the Animals. Classes are just £3 per dog, and entries open from 10am on the day. All dogs must be kept on a lead and remain well-behaved throughout.
Your ticket includes free access to all attractions at Havenstreet Station, including the Train Story Discovery Centre, where you can explore 150 years of railway heritage, and the fascinating carriage and wagon restoration workshops.
Funds raised from the walk will go to RSPCA Isle of Wight, helping animals in need across the Island. The Family Dog Show supports Friends of the Animals, a charity dedicated to caring for all animals, from domestic pets to wildlife, since 1990.
