Young entrepreneurs behind Boundless Wight celebrated the official launch of their first game last night, while also announcing a partnership with Mountbatten.
The launch event, held at The Island VI Form, marked the release of Walk the Wight: The Board Game, developed by Liv Adriaenssens, Conor Dean, Sebastian Flower, Isaac Millington, Louie Wakefield, Sophie Sanders, Kinga Kurowska, and Harry Shand, as part of the Young Enterprise programme.
Guests included High Sheriff, Nigel Hartley, representatives from Mountbatten and Quarr Abbey, and supporters who have helped the team over the past nine months.
Boundless Wight has become the most successful Young Enterprise team ever produced by an Isle of Wight school. Earlier this month, the team travelled to Cardiff for the Young Enterprise National Final, after winning the Isle of Wight, Hampshire and South East regional competitions.
From more than 1,000 teams nationwide, Boundless Wight reached the final 12, generated the highest income of any finalist, and received the Delta Air Lines ‘Pursuit of Opportunity’ award. Sophie was also awarded a “You’re Hired” medal during a competition challenge.
Speaking at the launch, Sophie, head of sales and co-chief executive, said the team wanted to create something “fun” which would get people out and about.
She said: “Mountbatten is a charity that is close to all of us and nobody had done a Walk the Wight board game before, so we thought we should do it.”
The game has been produced entirely on the Island, with manufacturing by Meridian3 and playing pieces supplied by Platters Products at Arreton.
As part of the Mountbatten partnership, £2 from every game sold will be donated to the hospice charity.
The first production run of 150 games is now under way, with the team also looking at future board and card game ideas.
Sophie added: “We want to keep going and get as much out there as we can.”
Special went to Tracy Osborne, director of fundraising and operations at Quarry Abbey, for her support and guidance throughout the Young Enterprise programme.
