Cowes Enterprise College welcomed Cambridge academics and former students back to its Sixth Form, to inspire Year 12 pupils considering their next steps.
Through a new link with Homerton College, Cambridge, youngsters experienced university-style lectures, and received advice from admissions tutors about applying to competitive universities and courses.
The visit was organised by former Cowes pupil, Maddie Rick, who is studying education at Cambridge. Students also heard from Cambridge graduate and former Cowes head girl, Beth Cobden, who spoke about her journey from the Isle of Wight.
Beth said: “I will always be grateful that the Sixth Form at Cowes helped me achieve my dream.”
Former pupils now studying at Oxford, Cambridge, University College, London, and other leading universities also returned to share their experiences.
Izzy Fawcett, studying Medicine at UCL, offered guidance to pupils interested in medical careers. Year 12 student, Ava Johnson, described the support as “fantastic”, and said she received “brilliant advice for my application”.
Director of Sixth Form, David Sanchez-Brown, said the aim was to ensure Island youngsters had the guidance, support, and opportunities needed to pursue ambitious futures.
Deputy director, Sara Cody, added that returning grads helped current pupils see what was possible, build confidence, and take practical steps towards their future goals.
