Newport Road, Ventnor, including the section known as The Graben, will close for repairs later this month.
Island Roads will carry out the works over three days from Monday, October 20, to Wednesday. The closure has been scheduled to avoid the summer season and to fall in the half-term break, so school transport will not be affected.
The first two days will focus on The Graben, with work on another stretch between Lowtherville Road and Down Lane on the third day.
The Graben suffers from ground movement, requiring regular interventions to keep the road safe.
Two busy Ryde roads are also set to be improved during October. Sections of Green Street are to be reconstructed and resurfaced in work starting on Monday (October 6) and expected to last seven working days. Then, similar work is scheduled to take place in Queen’s Road from October 20 and also last seven working days.
Because the Ryde work seeks to address the underlying issues that have caused the surface to deteriorate quicker than expected, deeper than usual excavations are required, meaning the roads must remain closed at all times during the projects. If possible, the roads may be opened over the weekend as long as it is safe to do so. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
