Live theatre returned to Brading New Town Hall, on Friday, for the first time in five years, as The Bull Ring Theatre Youth Performing Arts Group staged their original musical, Lovestruck Alley, to a sell-out crowd.
The performance marked a major milestone for the new performing arts partnership between The Bull Ring Theatre and Brading Town Council, an initiative designed to restore regular live entertainment to the town while providing creative opportunities for local residents.
Over the past year, the young cast wrote, developed, and produced the musical themselves. Set in a 1980s bowling alley facing demolition, the story follows a group of friends fighting to save their community hub.
Paul Wilson, director of The Bull Ring Theatre, said: “This wasn’t just about putting on a show. It was about proving what young people can achieve when they’re given the opportunity, encouragement, and belief to create something extraordinary. Every member of this cast should be immensely proud of what they’ve accomplished.”
The show was well-received by the audience, with the evening raising £230 for the project.
“This is only the beginning,” Mr Wilson added. “We have an exciting programme of performances planned for the community over the coming months, including the world premiere of our brand-new original musical, A Clockwork Heart, this September.”
