Isle of Wight pupils celebrate GCSE results after four years of hard work

Hundreds of pupils received the results of four years of hard work yesterday (Thursday), as GCSE results were released.

Cerese and Melody

Carisbrooke College

Carisbrooke College celebrated the achievements of Year 11 pupils across a broad range of academic and vocational subjects.

Melody Schooling was the highest-performing student, achieving a sweep of top grades: three 8s, a double 9-9 in Science, a 9 in English, Level 2 Distinction*s in both Child Development and Health & Social Care, alongside a Level 7 in Mandarin. Lillie Amer and Freddie Hollis were also highlighted for strong performances across academic and vocational subjects.

Headteacher, Natalie Sheppard, praised students for overcoming challenges and achieving results they could carry into their futures with pride.

Christ the King College

Oliver

Christ the King College celebrated strong GCSE and BTEC results across both academic and vocational subjects, following its Sixth Form successes the previous week.

The school highlighted particularly strong performances in subjects including English, Mathematics, Latin, Business Studies, languages, History and Geography, alongside vocational courses including Travel & Tourism and Health & Social Care.

Headteacher, Andrew Montrose, praised the resilience, determination and hard work of pupils and staff.

Rowan

Cowes Enterprise College

Cowes Enterprise College celebrated GCSE success, with students now preparing for sixth form, further education, and apprenticeships.

Tom achieved two grade 9s, five grade 8s, a grade 7 and a grade 6 and will remain at Cowes to study A-levels. Sameer, Daisy and Cora were also among the school’s high achievers and plan to continue with A-level studies.

Senior principal, Adrian Price, praised the commitment of pupils, staff and families.

The Isle of Wight College

Rowan

Students at The Isle of Wight College celebrated GCSE success in English and Maths, often achieved alongside vocational courses, employment, and other responsibilities.

Hair and Beauty pupil, Edie Sheath, achieved the highest possible grade in Foundation Maths, while Rowan Sirkett passed GCSE Maths after progressing through different qualification levels. Platform One pupil, Antony Hancock, also achieved a grade 4 in GCSE English.

Principal, Fidelma Washington, praised students’ commitment, perseverance and personal growth, saying the qualifications would provide a strong foundation for further study, apprenticeships, and employment.

Roscoe

Lift Ryde

Pupils at Lift Ryde celebrated strong GCSE and vocational results, with many securing the grades needed for sixth form, college, and apprenticeships.

Evie Cox and Emily Snelling each achieved nine grade 9s and a grade 8, while Jathisa Sivaranjan secured six grade 9s and four grade 8s. Roscoe Lloyd and Storm Davies were also among the school’s high achievers.

Principal, Will Doyle, praised the students’ determination, courage and resilience.

Medina College

Year 11 pupils at Medina College celebrated their GCSE results, before taking their next steps into sixth form, apprenticeships, further training, and employment.

Many will continue their studies at The Island VI Form, while others are pursuing opportunities on and off the Island.

Executive headteacher, Jess Paul, praised students’ hard work and perseverance, and said they were leaving Medina with “purpose, opportunity and genuine hope for their future”.

Priory School

Mrs E Soar said: “A superb set of GCSE results has, once again, highlighted the achievements of our pupils, with 97 per cent securing grades 9–4 and a 100 per cent pass rate. One in three grades were 9–7, equivalent to the old A*–A. These outcomes reflect the hard work and commitment of pupils and staff, and, as incoming Principal, I extend my sincere thanks to both. Priory School remains one of the Island’s top academic performers, and we are extremely proud of all our pupils as they take their next steps.”

Noah

Ryde School

Ryde School celebrated its best GCSE results since the 9-1 grading system was introduced, excluding Covid-adjusted years.

Among the leading performers, Zie C and Annabelle S each achieved seven grade 9s and two grade 8s, while Nathan P, Rio W, Harriet A, Isabelle H and Sophie T each secured eight GCSEs at grades 9 or 8.

Head Master, Will Turner, said pupils could be “hugely proud” of their achievements.

The Bay CE School

Pupils, parents and staff at The Bay CE School celebrated GCSE and vocational results, with many pupils securing their first choice of sixth form, college, apprenticeship, or training.

Headteacher, Emma Bowden, praised the cohort’s hard work, maturity, resilience and determination, while highlighting the individual journeys and personal achievements behind the results.

She wished students well as they move on to the next stage of their education, training or careers.
