The sights and sounds of steam will take over Havenstreet over the August bank holiday weekend, as the Island Steam Fair returns for its 51st year.
The four-day summer extravaganza, at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, runs from next Friday, August 28, to Monday, August 31, with vintage transport, arena entertainment, traditional fairground attractions, live music, and plenty of steam.
At the heart of the event will be a collection of steam traction engines, including road rollers, showman’s engines, and miniatures, which will be put through their paces in the main arena.
There will also be action from Stannage Stunt World, with two shows each day, alongside the Dog & Ducks display, and appearances from Topper The Clown. The railway’s popular traction engine games will also see the historic machines competing in a series of challenges.
Around the showground, visitors can explore lovingly restored vintage cars, military and commercial vehicles, motorbikes and tractors, many of which will also appear in the arena.
Traditional fairground fun will include gallopers and coconut shys, while live music will be performed on the Music Stage each day. Food and refreshments will also be available.
Steam trains will run throughout the event, giving visitors the chance to travel through the Island countryside in Victorian and Edwardian carriages, with train tickets including unlimited journeys during the day.
The Train Story Discovery Centre will also be open, showcasing locomotives and carriages spanning 150 years of Isle of Wight railway history.
