Vectis Historic Vehicle Show showcases classic cars

Karl Love and Jacque Gazzard with Humphrey

Classic cars were the stars of the show at the Vectis Historic Vehicle Club’s (VHVC) annual charity event held at the County Showground, Northwood, for the first time on Sunday.

There were a huge range of classic cars on show, provided by members of VHVC and invited members from all other Island Classic Car groups.

The event was opened by Island High Sheriff, Jacque Gazzard, who was there with her dog, Humphrey, and they were given a guided tour of the showground by VHVC President, Peter Hodgson.

The schedule included a host of family events with delightful performances from the Treblemakers Children’s Choir, IW Highland Pipes & Drums, Double Take Singers Charlotte and Sarah Harris, and soloist, Paelo Grillo.

There was also a Post Box Topper Display, organised by Debbie, of Plaza Ices, the Wolfguard Viking re-enactment camp, which included a fire-pit with a stew pot, and sword fight – a real treat.

The Ryde Bus & Coach Museum provided 20-minute open-top return trips to Cowes, while there were 34 trade stalls and six charity stalls.

Cllr Karl Love was guest judge and, guided by VHVC member, Jenny Belford, judged the various in-show categories.

Proceeds will go towards the VHVC’s two charities, Mountbatten and Ability Dogs 4 Young People.

The VHVC was formed in 1973 and it encompasses all makes and types of vehicles. For the past 14 years the show has been held at Arreton Barns but the move to the County Showground has given the organisation a chance to expand.

Results: VHVC Best British: 1 Ford Consul (owner Janet Richardson); VHVC Best Non-British: Renault 4 TL (Clare Henderson); VHVC Best Visitor: Austin A40 Sports (Mr Snaddon, who had travelled from Birmingham to display); VHVC Best Motor Bike: Triumph Twin (Bill Rasmussen).

This year, a ‘People’s Choice’ category was introduced and won by Clare Henderson with 44-year-old Minty Green Renault 4 TL.
