Four of the five branches of Jhoots pharmacies across the Island have reportedly been closed in recent days, amid reports that staff have not been paid for weeks; a situation which appears to be replicated in some places across the country.
Branches in Ryde, Cowes, East Cowes and Sandown have reportedly been closed, while Ventnor has remained open, although one member of staff confirmed that he had not been paid as usual over the last two months.
The Integrated Care Board’s Director of Primary Care and Local Care, James Roach, said: “We are aware that patients on the Isle of Wight are experiencing difficulties in accessing Jhoots pharmacies and not being able to collect the medicines they need. We would encourage patients to use alternatives when those pharmacies are closed, and we are supporting GP practices in helping patients to do so.
“We remain in regular contact with Jhoots and while we are very aware that the pharmacies are reportedly not opening to their contracted hours, no official notice has been given as to their closure. There are robust commissioning plans in place for the Isle of Wight and while we are keen to work together through any issues, we are prepared to take action where needed as we have done previously if contracted requirements are not met.”
