Organisers, Dr Kieron and Vicky Cooney, were delighted with the success and popularity of the inaugural IW Steampunk Festival held in Ryde last weekend.
They welcomed around 2,000 visitors who embraced the spirit of the event in spectacular fashion.
Dressed in an eclectic mix of steampunk attire – corsets, top hats, and sumptuous Victorian costumes – enthusiasts transformed the streets of Ryde into a living tableau, reminiscent of a grand Victorian film set.
At the heart of the festivities were the tea duelling, and teapot contests, giving great entertainment for families. Wandering performers, including dancers and musicians captivated audiences with their talents, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
The Royal Victoria Arcade, on Union Street, became a bustling hub, where the sounds of live music and stall-holders drew in many onlookers from the street.
Free daytime entertainment took place at Eastern Gardens along the Ryde sea front, with more entertainers, live bands and performers amongst intriguing sights and exhibits, including the Tardis from Dr Who alongside a Dalek. And there was a friendly but fiendish-looking sea monster.
As evening descended, the festival continued with a variety of concert entertainment at The Balcony, FuBar and The Star Coffee & Ale House, where Steampunk-inspired artists and bands from the UK and beyond delivered unforgettable performances.
A special walk for Steampunk enthusiasts in full costume was held on Sunday, despite the rain.
As they celebrate the success of this year’s festival, Keiron and Vicky eagerly anticipate its return next year, promising it will be even bigger and better!
