Fifteen inspirational young people from across the Island have been celebrated at the Isle of Wight Radio ‘Child of Wight’ awards 2026.
The awards were held at Tapnell Farm on Friday (September 4), with children and their families able to enjoy the venue’s play facilities before the ceremony.
Hosted by Paul Topping and Heather McCallum, the awards recognised courage, kindness, talent, determination and commitment to helping others.
Harry and Joanna Burdett were named Young Conservationists, Fred Eccleston Hall won Fund-raiser of the Year, Amy Marchant and Akita Smith received the Best Friend award, and Chloe and Anna Meredith were named Best Performers.
Octavia won Best Sibling, Evelyn Bennett was named Young Achiever, Harrison Carter received the Sporting Star award, and Oscar De Crescenzo-Joy was named the Asa Singleton Courageous Child.
Riley Edwards won the Make A Difference award, Finley Chitty was named Young Carer, Demi McBride received the Inspiration Award, and Phoenix Haywood was crowned Overall Child of Wight 2026.
Phoenix impressed judges with her resilience and determination. Diagnosed with a rare tumour at the age of six, she has continued to pursue dance and creative activities, raise money for charity, and launch her own vegan dog biscuit business, Wight Wags Bakery.
Managing director, Claire John, said: “The Child of Wight Awards are one of the most special events on the Isle of Wight Radio calendar.
“Every year, we hear incredible stories of young Islanders showing courage, kindness, determination and a real commitment to helping others.”
