Swan rescue in Newport

The swans after the good Samaritans stepped in

On Sunday afternoon, a group of friends, and a local charity, teamed up to save a swan in distress in Newport.

The incident began when a young distressed woman contacted local charity, Friends of the Animals, about a swan with a plastic tie around its beak.

Helen, a representative of the charity, explained the sequence of events. “The friends, Jess, Phoebe, and Morgan, found the swan originally at Seaclose but lost sight of it. They eventually located it again on the slipway opposite Quay Arts. With Morgan’s assistance and the help of a passer-by, we managed to catch the swan. I cut off the plastic hoop, and the swan went huffing and puffing back to the river with its family.

“We urge people to be sure to take their rubbish home with them, or put it in bins, to help keep our wildlife safe.”
