Isle of Wight St John Ambulance volunteer Glen Abbott has been recognised for his outstanding leadership and dedication to the organisation and wider community.
Glen received a Certificate of Appreciation at an awards ceremony held at the Royal Yacht Squadron on September 1.
The award was presented by the Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Susie Sheldon, on behalf of St John Ambulance, with County Commissioner Fizz Thompson recognising Glen’s contribution to volunteering, community resilience and first aid provision across the Island.
He was among a number of representatives from the blue light services honoured for their commitment to local communities.
Glen was recognised for his leadership and dedication during a period of significant organisational change. Following a national reorganisation, he stepped forward to become Network Lead, providing stability, direction and support to volunteers.
Under his leadership, the Isle of Wight team delivered more than 1,600 hours of first aid provision at a wide range of community events.
Youth volunteer numbers also increased by 30 per cent, helping to develop the next generation of St John Ambulance volunteers on the Island.
Glen has also supported efforts to improve community resilience through first aid education, with more than 275 Island residents receiving emergency first aid training.
Kay Marriott, St John Ambulance County President, said: “As the IOW County President, it was a privilege to nominate Glen in recognition of his outstanding leadership, commitment and dedication to St John Ambulance and the Isle of Wight community.”
